Simon On The Streets is an organisation with an aim to be there for homeless and rootless people and help them to access the services that they need to make positive changes to their lives. In one year a Simon On the Streets support worker will spend over 900 hours on the streets engaging with those in need as well as offering intensive support to 15 people a month. This kind of support often results in measurable changes that signify steps towards overcoming the challenges that homeless people face. Unlike a lot of charities that focus on providing shelter for the homeless, Simon On The Streets aims to improve the lives of those that don’t get a service from other organisations. The service is entirely outreach based which is important for those who have problems with authority and structure, which are major reasons for individuals being excluded from other agencies.
Here’s some work we produced for the charity:
For the past few years Simon On The Streets have run “Sleeping With Simon” a challenge to spend a night sleeping out in the open air to raise funds. Along with the actual sleep there will also be a unique opportunity to hear from some of the people they have supported which is a chance to learn about why homelessness is about so much more than having nowhere to live. The event is not about trying to re-create sleeping rough,it is an opportunity to learn about the real challenges that face rough sleepers on a daily basis and to understand exactly how and why they exist. This year, the event will be taking place at The Royal Armouries. Simon On The Streets asks that anyone who joins the event raises at least £100. As a truly independent charity that takes no Government funding, events like this are critical to their survival!
